Creativity key to peace dividends in Myanmar

YANGON, 20 November 2014 (IRIN) - As Myanmar's nationwide ceasefire negotiations continue, peace in many formerly war-torn regions has allowed state-run lifesaving services to gradually expand. But their provision is intensely politicized, and carefully crafted access strategies are vital, experts warn.

Talking to the Taliban, again

KABUL, 20 November 2014 (IRIN) - As foreign troops withdraw from Afghanistan, NGOs and UN bodies are admitting it publicly - they are dealing with the Taliban again. For humanitarians this represents the end of a 14-year process where at the worst moments they became the civilian wing of a military occupation.
